We are excited to announce that this year we have the honor to invite our SUPER talented Taiwanese Rapper, Dwagie 大支 & our Son of Houston, Witness 黃崇旭 to play with our local famous East Wind Band 東風樂團 in 2017 Taiwan Yes Festival!
Dwagie and Witness are both major solo artists with numerous album and music video releases between the two of them. They have both collaborated with many major Asian artists, while Dwagie has even collaborated with the likes of NAS, Mobb Deep, and the Dalai Lama. In fact, Complex magazine did a story on him, claiming Dwagie to be the only artist to have worked with both NAS and the Dalai Lama. In addition, 大支 even performed at mid-court during halftime of an NBA game between the Houston Rockets and Brooklyn Nets this year in Brooklyn.
They both have performed at shows throughout the US in major cities such as LA, NYC, Boston, SF, Austin (SXSW), Philadelphia, etc.. In addition, while attending the University of Texas, Witness held DJ residencies at clubs up and down 6th Street. However, neither Dwagie nor Witness has ever done an official show in Houston. This is quite ironic considering that Houston is Witness' hometown, and the Taiwanese, Chinese, and overall Mandarin-speaking population in H-town is rather large, with H-town having one of the largest Chinatowns in the nation.
Dwagie is considered the "Son of Taiwan", while in many ways, Witness is Houston's own local son. In fact, early in his career, the Houston Chronicle did a feature on Witness that was picked up by other major publications such as the New York Times, Associated Press, Taipei Times, etc..
East Wind band, Local Houston band that performs both Mandarin and English songs. 大支 DwagieDwagie’s status in Asia is legendary: from being a founding member of the first rap group to secure a record deal to the success of his current album which has garnered him multiple awards. In addition to being a staple in the local hip hop media, he has also received much attention from international outlets, including interviews with TIME Magazine, CNN, BBC, Reuters, The Times (UK), Al Jazeera, and multiple appearances on Discovery channel. He even had NBA star Derrick Rose of the Chicago Bulls making a video cameo appearance. |
Lyrically, Dwagie steers away from the shallow subject matter typically addressed in pop/club tracks, instead opting for messages with substance. This is no more evident than in his classic track, “People”, which outwardly displays compassion for all those who are struggling and suffering in this world. So poignant was his message in this song, that it lead to a meeting with global champion of Human Rights, the Dalai Lama, who is featured in the song and music video. |
